Malkiella Benchabat (b. 1985, New York City) is an Athens-based photographer whose work explores visual constructs of femininity and their relationship to mass media culture and the photographic medium.

Benchabat’s photographic exploration is defined by a fascination with the 'fiction' of the photographic medium. Within this framework, she points to the curated myths found within the family photo album. Her aesthetic is deeply rooted in nostalgia for bygone American culture, employing film and digital medium format photography with vintage optics to evoke a sense of warmth and physical longing. She also manipulates photos by hand in order to accentuate the fragmentation of youthfulness, memory and the printed image in the process of time. Her approach prioritizes the 'corporeality' of the image, using matter as a vehicle for memory and a representation for the body.

Benchabat is an autodidactic photographer with a Masters degree in Gender studies from Tel Aviv University. She has refined her craft through specialized technical courses and is currently engaged in a mentorship led program for artists. Benchabat has exhibited her work in numerous group exhibitions across Israel and internationally.
